My brother and I were out in the neighborhood playing with our friends. When we came home for lunch my dad asked us to unload his truck and put everything in the shed. My parents, aunt and uncle were leaving to go out for the evening. They were leaving us in the care of my cousinswho are several years older than us. After we had lunch and my parents had left, my brother and I started to unload the truck. I grabbed the first load and headed for the shed. I was in the shed putting things away for about ten minutes. My brother was still not back there with another load. I went around the front of the house looking for him when I saw a flash. As I reached the driveway I saw my brother just as he was throwing another match on the driveway. When the matchhit the concrete a flare of fire leaped up about five foot and was gone just as fast as it appeared. I immediately forgot about unloading the truck and joined my brother. He explained to me how it worked. He handed me a five-pound can of gunpowderand told me to pour a small pile out on the driveway. After I did and back away he tore out another match from the pack,struck it and threw it on the pile of powder. Again the flash leaped from the driveway. We continued this way, with mepouring and him throwing the match, until we were down to the second to last match. We had to figure out a way to continue before we were out of matches. We had i t. We noticed that when the powder had burned off the match wouldstill be laying there burning. My brother suggested that we simply pour some on the match. Without thinking it throughanother second, I tilted the can and began to pour the powder. Everything that happened after that was a blur. I rememberrunning backward as fast as I could, still holding onto the can. I threw the can away from me just as it exploded. A blinding flash filled my head as a crushing boom emptied the air from my lungs. I fell to the ground and remember hearing, as clear as a bell, the metal ends of the canister bouncing off the driveway. When I got off the ground a split second later I was ina panic. I ran faster than I will probably ever again. I didnt know where I was headed but I had to get there fast. I endedup running into the house, down the hall to the bathroom. As I came into the bathroom I slipped on the rug and slid underneaththe sink. I looked down at myself for the first time and watched as sev eral blisters appeared on my legs. After my neighbor and brother managed to calm me down they started to put medicine and creams all over me. My parents showed up when they said they would and were completely stunned. My mother had a huge aloe vera plant thatthey broke apart and spread all over my legs. At the time of the explosion I was wearing a pair of shorts, a football type jersey,and a pair of tennis shoes. I suffered from first degree burns on my face and arms. I wasnt as lucky when it came to my legs. The blast had caused second and third degree burns that were mostly on my thighs. That night was a long and painful one for methat I wont soon forget. A Modest Proposal is considered by many to be one of the most well written and finest example of satire in world literature. His mere proposal for cannibalism as a method to bring justice and allow the citizens of Ireland at a time of depression, is insanely absurd however taking the persona of a well-intentioned economist and publishing it in the form of a pamphlet, the idea itself seems quite justifiable. Jonathan Swift uses the pamphlet as a way to exemplify and point out the problems that indeed harbour the entire country of Ireland. He assembles multiple points and facts which point out that Ireland is its own enemy. The dire poverty lingering in the streets and the position the families find themselves in are a significant example of this which is shown right from the start: ââ¬Å"the roads, and cabin doors, crowded with beggars of the female sex, followed by three, four, or six children, all in rags and importuning every passenger for an alms.â⬠He follows on by saying that the many number of children as well as the low income of the parents are indeed a huge problem for the people. There appears that nothing is being done at current to dissolve of the problem and the people find themselves at ends meet. Jonathan then writes about a possible solution which may be classified in modern times as being down right bordering on the edge of insanity. He devises a method that may help the workers and labourers find a way to rid of their problems and live a better life. His method being; using the children and simply put, make them their breakfast, lunch, dinner and clothing. What better way to start then to point out and critically assess the problems lingering in the country and propose a solution which may be the end to all the their problems. Multiple times mentioned throughout the pamphlet, brought out by sarcastic humour, papists as well as the English are put down by Jonathan suggesting that they are the cause to all their problems. His satire in turn becomes oblique and direct as he mentions that he ââ¬Å"could name a country which would be glad to eat up our whole nation without it.â⬠His allusion to England and its people also directly assaults the English misuse of Ireland. The workers and those who have nothing are very well left with null as England holds all supremacy over the country and its land. Jonathan points out at one point that there have been multiple sayings and solutions for the rampant condition of Ireland however, none have been taken into account and no action has been taken. He points out the number of ill people and those who cannot fend for themselves. His proposal comes into turn to annihilate the problems and treat those who have been treated with indifference and neglect with compassion and aid. Provide examples showing how demonstrative communication can be effective and ineffective, positive and negative, for the sender and receiver. à Demonstrative Communication is the process of peopleââ¬â¢s thoughts and messages of communicating by actively listening in verbal and nonverbal communication. Depending on how a message is communicated, ââ¬Å"can be effective and ineffective, either positive or negativeâ⬠(Juancho24, 2012). Communication is used everywhere for instance all over the world. There are many forms of communication by applying communication process model for example; ââ¬Å"sender/receiver, encoding, decoding, message, channel, and feedbackâ⬠(Cheesbro, Oââ¬â¢Connor, and Rios, 2010). Learning to develop communication skills can help individuals to carry appropriate conversations and to interpret the connection with one another. There are many ways to communicate verbal and nonverbal for example, a parent tells his child how proud he is to be his parent and then gives him a hug, the parent expresses verbal communication by using positive words and applies nonverbal communication with a hug, body language. Individuals express verbal communication through oral or written skills. Verbal communication is the tone of voice that indicates how engaged the topic is and the ability to realize the emotions perceived. A personââ¬â¢s tempo in a conversation can be understood with the ideas being communicated. When sending a message in verbal communication the words accustomed to, can convey differently then how the receiver defines the context. Nonverbal communication is unstoppable and significantly valuable as much as speaking with a loud tone of voice and communicating verbally. In nonverbal communication, ââ¬Å"All types of communication do not involve the exchange of words,â⬠is defined as nonverbal communicationâ⬠(Rogers & Steinfatt, 1999, p. 67). A facial expression is the most common skill used in nonverbal communication for example; a smile or frown, eye contact, body language, and gestures. Overall, nonverbal communication can be effective positively and can be negatively ineffective in two different points of views. First example, husbands and wives communicate with each other by observing each otherââ¬â¢s body language. This is a positive way of communication by effectively knowing each others thoughts. Second example, Children know as soon as their parents turn to look at them, the meaning is to stop misbehaving and could mean they are in trouble. The second example used is both effective and ineffective. Third example, a smile or frown can interpret a person to be happy or angry. The person could also be interpreted as approachable or would rather be left alone. This is positively effective and negatively ineffective. Fourth example, an individual waving or a hand shake in America, can be interrupted as a friendly sign or a strong individual but can also be interrupted as insulting and rude in other countries. This example is both effective and ineffective with positive and negative communication. However, verbal communication consequently has similar negatively ineffective as positively effective. First example, the lack of listening leads to misconception and when listening carefully the outcome becomes essential to the receiver. Both examples are ineffective and effective. Second example, is the choice of vocabulary and taking into consideration who will be receiving the information. This is used by effectively positive. Third example, the lack of verbal speech and failing to interpret the proper speech causes misunderstanding. In another way the proper use of speech can help the receiver to understand what is being interpreted. Example is used by ineffective with negative outcome but if used correctly can be effective with positive outcomes. Explain how demonstrative communication involves listening and responding. Listening and responding is used in demonstrative communication to engage the active communication skill from sender to receiver. This process is very important to both sender and receiver, by actively listening and ready to respond. One example is a sender and receiver must be willing to communicate properly. ââ¬Å"Accurate listening efficiency promotes retention of important information, resulting in fewer misunderstandings and on-the-job errorsâ⬠(Wilson, n.d., p. 1). Once a sender is ready to send out a message it is important for the receiver to receive the correct information by evaluating the message sent, this way the receiver can respond back with feedback and a solution. Applying the steps in the communication process model, mentioned in the first paragraph of this essay will go hand in hand with the practice of listening and responding which will help by demonstrating communication through the steps being practice. An example of listening and responding with children is, ââ¬Å"monkey see monkey doâ⬠(Uebergang, 2006, Dec.20). Listening and responding is a process to be learned as individuals who continues to repeat the process with a good attitude. Conclusion Communicating can never be avoided no matter how hard we try and cannot solve every issue. Demonstrative communicate is an ongoing process of how we interact within one another every day, in different settings of environment such as professional, at home, work, and community.
